Proverbs 2: 6-8
Everyone wants to be a winner in life. Everyone wants to do well in life and yet we are often confronted with setback after setback. Our Scripture today tells us, “He holds victory in store for the upright, He is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for He guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.” (vs7-8) What does one have to do to prevail in life?
How many times have you tried to do the right thing but failed anyway. Maybe you were caught in a no-win situation. Perhaps your emotions undermined what you were trying to accomplish. It could even be that you thought you were pursuing the correct course of action but were simply wrong. When this happens, don’t condemn yourself. This experience of being defeated and failing can teach you invaluable lessons about victory.
Can you remember times when you totally failed and felt defeated?
How did God help you overcome your defeat?
2 A Deeper Faith
For example, God sometimes allows defeat because He desires for you to depend on Him rather than your own abilities, gifts, skills, resources, and power. Like- wise, brokenness is essential for the Lord to fulfill His purposes in your life. He may have to break your self-will and teach you to pursue His goals rather than your own. Finally, failure exposes your weaknesses and inadequacies. You allow Him to work through you because you realize your best efforts are never any match for what He can do. God uses everything that happens as a teaching and learning experience in our lives.
How and what has God been teaching you?
Do you desire to walk in a closer and deeper relationship with the Lord?
What can we do to allow this deeper faith to develop?
Defeat in your life is not final; it’s God’s way of pointing you to true success. So don’t be discouraged when things do not go your way or turn out like you had planned. Rather, learn from Him and trust Him to lead you on the path to ultimate victory. Remember He holds victory in store for you. The presence of God and the ways of God will delight you and bring joy to your heart. Remember what the Word says, “For the Lord gives wisdom, and from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” (v6) Seek His ways, knowledge, and wisdom and remember that defeat is simply a signpost pointing you to ultimate victory and blessings through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In His presence we discover victory even in the midst of defeat.
Can you share how God has brought victory in your life?
Have you thanked Him for blessing you?
Why not thank Him today and every day!
