What To Do?

Psalm 125

The Lord is teaching His people to trust in Him. In order to do so we must continually look to him who is our leader and helper. The Word says, “I will lift up my eyes to the hills--- where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:1-2) “I will lift up my eyes to you, to you whose throne is in heaven.” (Psalm 123:1) Where is your focus in life? We must keep our focus on Jesus Christ who is the author and finisher of our faith.

1    Dependence

Our Scripture today says, “Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever.” (v 1) Mount Zion was known to be a stronghold. The actual meaning of the word is to be dry, to set up, and to protect. It was a ridge of a mountain or citadel which is known as a fortress that commands a city or stronghold. Those who depend on God are like a fortress or stronghold which cannot be shaken but endures forever. This is a beautiful explanation of the strength of Almighty God in whom we depend and trust. He is faithful and strong forever. Do you focus on the strength and power of the Lord or do you focus on yourself and the things of the world?

Has God been faithful to you?
How have you experienced His faithfulness through you trust in Him?

2    Discernment

Our Scripture says, “As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people both now and forevermore. The scepter of the wicked will not remain over the land allotted to the righteous, for then the righteous might use their hands to do evil” (vs 2-3) we must be a discerning people so that we do not fall into the temptation of the evil one. Each day there will be issues that you must manage. The challenges that are beyond your control are usually the ones that will dominate your thoughts. You may not know what to do so you must allow the Holy Spirit to help you discern what is best for a child of God. Always remember that your help comes from the Lord in discerning what actions to take.

How has God given you discernment when dealing with issues you did not know how to deal with?
We do well to read the Holy Scriptures. Pray, and spend time allowing God to reveal His wisdom to us.

3    Development

The Father allows these difficulties so you will rely upon Him. Remember, God’s goal is to develop your endurance and faith, and He does so by creating situations whereby you have no choice but to turn to Him. When this happens, don’t rush ahead or invent solutions. First, begin by setting your mind on God. Second, do all He has given you the wisdom to accomplish. Third, leave the rest in His hands and expect Him to reveal the path as you go. You may not know what to do, but he always does. Trust Him. Our Scripture says, “Do good, O Lord, to those who are good, to those who are upright in heart.” (v4) It is the Lord’s delight to develop you into the servant He wants you to be so let Him lead you and bring peace into your life.

Are you growing in the Lord?
Are you allowing God to develop you?
What needs to change in your life to become the man or woman of God He desires for you to be?
