1 Peter 2: 1-8

As a Christian, we have many choices to make in life. We are called by God to make a daily choice of whom we will trust, follow, believe, listen to, and obey. Our scripture today teaches us that the one who believes in Jesus will never be put to shame or disappointed. We have a daily choice to make as to whether we trust in Him or ourselves and the ways of the world.

 1             Stumbling

Have you ever wondered why you go through some of the things you go through? Why are we facing what we are facing today? Once more God is presenting you with a choice of faith: Will you trust Him or will you seek your own way? Will you accept what He sends as an instrument of discipleship to train you? Too many times, we choose to go our own way or listen to the advice of the ungodly. When we do, we are like a person stumbling and headed for the fall. The Word says that Jesus is, “A Stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall. They stumble because they disobey the message, which is also what they were destined for.” (V8) A man without Christ to keep him steady is like a man constantly going down, and often time’s great is the fall.

 What causes you to stumble?

Are you stubborn enough to keep on saying, “I did it my way?”

Jesus said, “Without me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)

2             Seeking

The Word says, “Seek and you will find.” Are you able to say, “Not my will, but Yours be done.” Can you say that today? Can you cast yourself wholeheartedly unto God’s loving care, knowing that what He wants and has for you is better than what you could ever seek or find for yourself? It is a difficult lesson to be sure. Yet it is what the Father is always striving to teach you, complete and unhindered dependence on Him and confidence in His love, wisdom, and power. The Word says, “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and all the other things of life will be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33)

How can we seek God?

 3             A Spiritual House

The Word says that Jesus is a living stone (our solid rock) and we like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a Holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. We are not to be lone rangers; we are to be a part of the living family of God, the body of Christ. The one who believes in Him will never be disappointed. Will you say, no matter what happens, “Lord, instruct me; I trust you in every circumstance and situation of my life?” I hope you will. There is nothing better; you can do than abandon yourself to His will, provision, and protection. That is the path even through adversity to abundant, fulfilling, joyous life. The Lord loves His family and you are His family. He will never lead you astray or forsake you, but will help you to experience life exceedingly, abundantly, above all you could ask or imagine. Jesus is the head of our spiritual house and in His presence daily choose His will over your own! Our Lord and Savior is “Rock Solid” and we as His children can be as well!
