John 15 : 15 - 17
It has been said that if a person has at least three close friends in life that person is blessed. How many true friends do you have in life? A true friend is someone who will show up when everyone else has walked out. A true friend is one who will be your friend until the end. A true friend is one who will stand by you even when you have failed and your faults are known to all. What kind of friend are you?
So many important things in life depend on relationships and not material things. Andrew Murray says, “The highest proof of true friendship is the intimacy that holds nothing back and admits the friend to share our inmost secrets. It is a blessing to be a servant of Christ, His redeemed ones delight to call themselves His servants. Christ had often spoken of the disciples as His servants. In His great love our Lord now says, “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead I have called you friends, for everything I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” (John 15:15) Jesus chooses to be intimate with us. His love and relationship with you is very personal. It is good to know someone who is special; however, it is better to know that special one personally.
How would you describe your relationship with Jesus?
Is it personal?
Does Jesus consider you His personal friend?
Since the beginning of time, God has sought ways of revealing Himself to mankind, first in the Garden of Eden, then through the law, the priests, the Temple, and later to the prophets. With the birth of His Son, God initiated an intimacy with man that can never be destroyed. Jesus’ love for us was so great that He laid aside His royal robe in heaven and came to earth to identify and relate to His creation. How special does that make you and me? Why would God choose to reveal Himself to us with such clarity that even a child can understand and receive His love? When Jesus ascended into the glory of Heaven He promised a further revelation to come through the coming of the Holy Spirit to indwell our lives and guide us into the Holiness of God. It confuses us as to why so many people totally disregard these powerful revelations.
How has God revealed Himself and His will for your life?
Should we be an instrument of God revealing Himself to others?
John 13:1-17 is a perfect demonstration of the love that Jesus has for His followers. Jesus took a basin of water and a towel and washed the feet of His disciples giving all of us an example of how we are to love and serve others. True friendship is filled with demonstration after demonstration of our love for others. The next time you are tempted to think that God does not care if you hurt or if you are lonely, think about what it cost Him to come to earth to share His love, will, and blessings with you as well as the rest of His creation. He did not come to judge or condemn, He came to demonstrate His personal love for you. Before He left heaven, He knew there would be a cross, and still He was willing to come for you. God continues to reveal Himself even when you are captivated by the things of this world. Ask God to make you sensitive to His great love and do not forget to thank Him for leaving heaven and coming to earth to die for your sins so that you could be forgiven and adopted into His family. Thank God for making you one of His special friends.
