The True Light
John reveals that Jesus Christ is the light of the world and in Him was life. Jesus is also called the light of men. “The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.” (vs 4&5) “The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.” (v9) Have you seen the light and are you walking in the light?
Many people all around us are living in the darkness and the misery of the unknown realities. Too many people go to church and come home without discovering the personal love of Jesus Christ. Some are even baptized and still do not know the intimate love of the Savior. They never develop a one-on-one relationship with the Creator and the Lover of their souls. Their lives are often characterized by emptiness and lack of meaning and purpose in life. God has called us to worship Him, but even before, He calls us to intimate fellowship with Him. In the garden of Eden He walked in the cool of the day with Adam and Eve. Throughout history, He has continually reaches out to His creation.
What is it like to live in darkness?
Who helped you see and experience the light?
The True Light
God’s greatest display of love and devotion comes to us through the life of Jesus Christ. However, as A.W. Tozer wrote in his book, The Pursuit of God, “To most, God is an inference, not a reality. He is a deduction from evidence which they consider adequate, but He remains personal unknown to the individual.” The responsibility of the relationship is not all God’s. We must have a desire to know Him, walk with Him, and enjoy His company. He habitually reveals Himself to us, but are we seeking His presence? He continually offers us the opportunities to love Him, commune with Him, worship Him, follow Him, and the list could go on and on without end. We must understand that He is the “True Light.”
Are you walking in the Light?
What could you do to experience more and more of His marvelous Light?
We are called to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. (Matthew 5: 13-16) We are to be God’s “LED.” I have learned that stands for light emitting diode. When we are properly attached to the true source of light we become the illumination of the presence and Holiness of God. A. W. Tozer also said, “God formed us for His pleasure, and so formed us so that we can, in divine communion, enjoy the sweet and mysterious mingling of kindred personalities. He meant for us to see Him and live with Him and draw our life from His smile.” This is a beautiful picture of our intended intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. If we cultivate our relationship with Him, we can know “the True Light” which gives light to every man. May the Lord give us the desire to know Him better, to walk with Him by faith, and to enjoy His company. Lord reveal yourself to us as we wait in Your Holy presence!
